Defence Cable Manufacturing Capabilities
High-Temperature & Extreme-Environment Cables
Heatsense manufactures cables using advanced insulation and protective materials including PTFE, PFA, FEP, ETFE, PEEK, polyimide, silicone, mica, glass, quartz and ceramic fibres.
These materials offer different combinations of thermal, electrical, chemical and mechanical performance, enabling cables to be designed for the specific operating conditions of an application.
Screened, Braided & Multicore Cables
Our specialist manufacturing processes enable the development of complex multicore cables, individually screened constructions, overall screened cables and protective braiding using selected metallic and non-metallic materials.
These capabilities are particularly valuable where space, signal integrity, mechanical protection and environmental performance must be considered together.
Military Specification PTFE Equipment Wires
Heatsense manufactures PTFE equipment wires including products approved to BS3G210:1996 and constructions designed to meet relevant NEMA HP4 / MIL-W-16878 requirements.
Available options include different conductor materials, voltage ratings, insulation constructions and identification colours, subject to the selected product specification.
Bespoke Cable Design & Development
Where standard cables cannot meet the required specification, our engineering team can develop bespoke constructions around the customer’s technical brief.
Projects may involve material selection, conductor configuration, insulation systems, screening, protective layers, dimensional constraints and application-specific testing.
Quality, Accreditation & Defence Supply Chain Readiness
Heatsense operates established management systems and holds certifications and industry registrations relevant to demanding defence and aerospace supply chains.
AS9100 Rev D Aerospace Quality Management Certification
An internationally recognised quality management standard covering aviation, space and defence organisations. It provides a structured framework for quality assurance, risk management, traceability and controlled manufacturing processes.
ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Certification
Demonstrates an established quality management system supporting consistent manufacturing, process control and continual improvement.
ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management Certification
Supports responsible environmental management within manufacturing operations and supplier assessment processes.
JOSCAR Registered
Heatsense is registered on JOSCAR, the supplier assurance platform used across aerospace, defence and security supply chains. Registration supports supplier due diligence and prequalification, although individual customer approval may still be required.
Cyber Essentials Plus Certified
Independently assessed cyber security controls provide an important foundation for supplier information security and procurement requirements.
ADS Membership
Heatsense is associated with ADS, the UK trade organisation representing aerospace, defence, security and space industries.
Rolls-Royce SABRe 3 Approval
Heatsense holds Rolls-Royce supplier approval and has experience manufacturing specialist cables for demanding aeroengine testing and development applications.
Additional programme-specific approvals, security requirements and product qualifications can be assessed against individual customer and contract requirements.

Defence Cable FAQs
Can Heatsense manufacture cables for military and defence applications?
The suitability of an individual cable depends on the applicable technical specification, environmental conditions, qualification requirements and customer approval process.
Does Heatsense hold defence industry accreditations?
The company is also an ADS member and holds Rolls-Royce SABRe 3 supplier approval.
These credentials support participation in defence and aerospace supply chains but do not constitute universal approval for every defence programme.
Is Heatsense JOSCAR registered?
JOSCAR registration does not automatically guarantee approval or selection by individual defence contractors.
Does AS9100 certification apply to defence cable manufacturing?
Heatsense’s AS9100 certification provides a recognised quality management framework relevant to these sectors. Individual products and programmes may still require additional technical qualification, inspection, testing or customer-specific approval.
Can Heatsense manufacture cables to military specifications?
For other military or defence specifications, our engineering team can review the applicable requirements and determine whether an existing construction is suitable or whether a bespoke design and qualification programme is necessary.
What materials are used in specialist defence cables?
Screening and protective constructions can incorporate metallic braids, glass fibres, quartz, ceramic fibres and specialist aramid materials.
The most appropriate construction depends on the cable’s electrical, mechanical, thermal and environmental requirements.
Can Heatsense manufacture screened cables for defence electronics?
Screening arrangements can be designed around customer requirements, although electromagnetic compatibility performance must be evaluated and validated for the intended system.
Can Heatsense develop bespoke cables from technical drawings?
Where necessary, the engineering team can investigate alternative materials, conductor arrangements and protective constructions before agreeing a manufacturing specification.
Are Heatsense cables suitable for naval or submarine applications?
However, suitability for a specific naval installation depends on the required qualification standards, fire and smoke performance, fluid resistance, pressure conditions and other programme-specific requirements. These must be confirmed before approval for use.
Can Heatsense provide cable traceability and testing documentation?
Customers should specify their documentation, inspection, material traceability and testing requirements at the enquiry stage so that Heatsense can confirm the records and evidence available for the proposed cable.
Can Heatsense support prototype and development quantities?
Prototype feasibility, minimum manufacturing quantities and development lead times are assessed according to the complexity of the proposed design.
